My dignity depends on your vote

Seems I was not clear … I do blame people (myself too) for what is not working in Morocco.
Looks like, with the upcoming elections, we are going back to our old habits again… the government did not do this, the government did not do that, why would I vote? My voice did not make a difference last time I voted, it won't change anything today. Tell you what, yes it will not change anything, for the simplest reason that you did not vote last time and you are denying yourself that right once again.
I just wanted to share with you- and you can quote me on this, NEITHER THE GOVERNMENT, NOR THE KING WILL CHANGE ANYTHING, we have to claim the change! We Moroccans have to start thinking and acting as citizens. Kick your representatives' butts, make them work … show them that you are no longer a subject but "un citoyens Marocains comme il se doit".
For a long time, we let ourselves be misled; the administration is the servant and not us. Remind the clerk who is giving you an attitude "au service des mines," that he/she was hired to serve you and that if it were not for you she/he would be still waiting at the temps agency… that will hopefully remind them who they are.
Don't give away your voice, VOTE. That is the only way for us to reclaim our BEAUTIFUL country.

We are a chae3b that does not like to take initiative in anyhthing, even when it has to do with our own good. do you really think that anyone of us can confront any employee of the govt-our own- that they work for us. they will make you life living hell. may in the US it is easier to do so but not back home. al kamea. that is what it is called . we were suppressed and will always be.People want cahnages , the world wants changes, NDI just sent a delegation of Syrain to oversee the voting process, to keep it "fair"
ok. What do you recommend for les resortissants Marocains ici to make theri voices reach NOS responsables?????

Chocolat Egbel, if I did it you can do it. and if we do it, we'll show more people how they can do it.
You have given up, even before trying...are you afraid of the price you will have to pay? I will pay the price for you...just push with me and when the it is time to pay, I will go forward. You can hide behind me ;)By standing up, people are only taking back what is theirs.

it is true that i kind of giving up on us. i tried and tried before and nothing happens. but it is never too late to reonvert me back to my beleives that we can make a change. I admire your perseverance and i will love to vote but have to go to NY to do so. how is that convenient? why dont they have one in the DC area. The consulate here told us that we had to register first over in NY then go back to vote. I mean come on??even the lady that answered the phone seemed annoyed with my questions.
we do not need to hide behind each other, we have to stand as one and make a line that no one can break. just like during salat in Mosquee...
notre Maroc nous appartient mais on ne le sais pas. i just hear the newly resorttisants marocains to here, they hate is back there, they tell us that we live in a mirage/illusions of a better Maroc....so who really gave up??? people over there did, dont you think so???

Chocolat Egbel,

People in Morocco have enough reasons to give up, they have indoctrinated, blinded. We on the other hand are "sober" and we can open their eyes.
That being said, I never said, it will be easy or that it won't take time...and now that you know where to start, tell New York how yo feel about having to go there to register to vote, instead of them going to DC. There is also a number you can call in Morocco, L'Association Mohammed VI, tel them how you feel.

i will pass the number along all the Marocains that i know. a lot of us feel the same way about this. yet, none of us know how to go about it. at least that is a first step. Im willing to work on it and educate these new comers abt the reality of my illusions. i have been here too long yet my heart aches every day to go back there. the people scare me back there, too vicious. a month there make me hate it and refude to leave my house. seems everyone is mad at someone something, no wonder the sale of alchool jumped over the last few years....

Great! that is the attitude, educate others... do not hate it, change it :)

BBC correspondent, Richard Hamilton, is apparently pessimistic about democracy in Morocco and sees lack of it and spread of violent Islam as the two main threats to the kingdom. While he sees King Mohammad IV as “a nice man,” when compared to his forefather Moulay Ismail who used to cut heads of slaves and kill his newborn girls, he also believes the king holds too much power to qualify the upcoming elections as democratic.
Hamilton says the Moroccan government is running elections just to please Washington , and the Islamist PJD would never manage to have a sweeping win due ,first, to the way electoral constituencies are divided , and because the king gets to appoint his prime minister.

@ Chocolat egbel: I agree with Richard, we are still far from democracy in fact we may never reach democracy he is referring to. We are not the UK or the US,so our democracy is different. There is a democracy for each society, depending on background, principals and people.
And about Washington, may hat be the case...the important thing should be that there are elections and we should vote.
It is certain that things will not change today or even next year, but they will.
It took Europe a revolution not just a vote to get their voices through, and if we can't organise ourselves for such an act, then we should at least push each other into voting.
