What would you do?

What do you do when a friend needs your help? How do you respond to a desperate call?
I wish I could do something to make her feel better, and cheer her up but I don’t know what/how. I don’t know if I should tell jokes or just listen to her and affirm what she feels.
What do you do? When a friend is down, do you put his or her feelings aside and try to help her/him think about something else or do you listen and nod?

How would you handle it? H

I agree with Foulla. Let her/him talk as long as s/he wants to and then the tough part begins!

Yes but if you see in her eyes that she wants you to say something?
Thank you guys!

When a person is depressed it is good if he/she confides with a trusted friend. Let him/her tell you what is bothering him/her. Listen all to what is being said. Analyse it and come up with some positive ideas to overcome the problem. Do not criticise or say something that will agravate the matter. Ask him/her to pray to 'Allah' and ask for a way out of the problem.

Very case-dependent this one. It depends on the person involved as well! But generally I let the person start giving clues! & I surf the waves...

I really appreciate all your input!
dr 02 I-- do not do very well in waves, but I will certainly explore your suggestion.
Makdom—yes but she is Christian, and I am always afraid to talk about god when I am talking to a none-Muslim; they think that you are trying to influence them especially when they are middle eastern Christian.

Thank you!
